Some things to note about the Q60A TVs are that you lose some high-end features from the flagship Q90A series. The Q60A series doesn’t get a 120Hz refresh rate (primarily for fast-paced content like games and sometimes sports), and neither does Samsung’s new mini-LED backlight. I think what sets a TV like the Q60A apart (at this price point) is that it looks as good as much more expensive TVs. Of course, picture quality is the most important aspect, but there’s no denying that this is also a beautiful TV.
Despite the dual-LED backlight – more on that below – the Q60A has a thin side profile and is dressed in Samsung’s usual thin bezels, finely brushed plastic and sharp corners. Like most Samsung TVs from recent years, assembly does not require a screwdriver: you simply place the wide legs directly on the stand. Overall, this complete package is stylish and efficient, if not exactly good looking. You might get similar performance from a TCL or Vizio model for less money, but you won’t get this kind of design attention.

In terms of TV performance, the Samsung Q60A isn’t breaking any records, but that’s because the wave of HDR TVs like this tend to be so good. With a 4K/HDR TV in this category, we’re looking for good contrast, high brightness and wide color coverage that covers the basics, and that’s more or less exactly what you get here.
Tests showed that during SDR (non-HDR, Standard Dynamic Range) content, the Q60A produced average black levels for an LED/LCD TV with a VA panel, decent brightness, and wide color thanks to quantum dots. You also get crisp 4K resolution and decent motion performance here, including Samsung’s MEMC (motion estimation/motion compensation) controls.

Speaking of backlights, Samsung’s 2021 QLED TVs this year will feature “Dual LED” backlighting, which supposedly uses both “warm” and “cool” LEDs (in terms of color temperature or white balance) to “optimize colors and dramatically improve contrast.” According to Samsung.
While the company could be on to something in terms of color (the Q60A boasts some really great colors for its price range), the brightness and black levels you get aren’t dramatically improved by any means. They’re more than satisfactory, but they’re about what we’d expect at this price and pedigree. At the end of the day, though, the whole package is a TV that leaves most types of content looking bright, rich and perfectly detailed.
If the Q60A TVs cost a little more than the average bear, it’s because in addition to their stylish design and versatile performance, you also get high-quality processing and plenty of features. In a sense, the Q60A TVs are a “diet” version of the flagship Q90A we tested earlier. They have a slightly lower processor and slightly less features, but they still get the job done.

The Samsung Q60A series is a great general choice, but with no HDMI 2.1 compatibility and only a 60Hz refresh rate, it may not appeal to videophiles or next-gen gamers.
If you’ve been between the Q60A and a higher-end QLED or Neo QLED model, it’s worth noting that you get HDMI 2.1 compatibility on slightly more advanced models, so if you’re interested in features like variable refresh rate (VRR) or 120fps, you should consider spending a little more (or buying your favorite TVs from other brands altogether).
However, if you don’t know what any of these features mean, aren’t going to play advanced gamers, and/or aren’t a master at 24fps playback (which doesn’t play 100% smoothly on 60Hz TVs), he wasn’t in trouble here.
