Allen’s 37-yard punt return with 2:51 left helped the Jaguars beat rival Tennessee 20-16 on Saturday night and secure their first AFC South championship since 2017.

The Dubs turned the ball over again and the Jaguars (9-8) went on to celebrate their most important regular season win in history.

“This was one of those games where our defense had to win for us,” Jaguars linebacker Trevor Lawrence said. “Us guys, offensively, we’re a little disappointed because we left a lot out there. But we just win these games. Our defense got us today. They played great.”

Jacksonville clinched the No. 4 seed in the conference playoffs and will host either the Los Angeles Chargers or Baltimore in the wild-card round next weekend.

It was the 18th time in the past 20 seasons that at least one NFL team won its division after finishing in a tie the previous year or the previous year.

Jacksonville closed out the regular season with its fifth straight win and became the fifth team in NFL history to enter the playoffs with a five-game losing streak and a five-game winning streak in the same season.

“We just kept believing,” Lawrence said. “Nobody ever lost faith. Everyone believed in each other. We never lifted a finger. We lost five games in a row and got tougher.

Tennessee (7-10) has lost its last seven games, a skid that had everyone writing them off ahead of Saturday’s finale.

“Nobody wants to finish like we do,” Titans tight end Derrick Henry said. “That’s never the plan, never the goal. As I said, things happen, misfortunes happen.

“We wanted to win the division and have a great record, yes, but that didn’t happen this year. All you can do is get back to work and be grateful for the journey and look up to everyone for their efforts and going forward.

The Titans rested several starters last week and essentially created a 10-day layoff to get healthy. They returned to their brand of crushing football and looked like they would pull off the impossible turnaround until a Dubs turnover changed the game.

Henry finished with 109 yards on 30 carries. Dobbs completed 20 of 29 passes for 179 yards with a touchdown, an interception and a fumble.

Lawrence completed 20 of 32 passes for 212 yards with a touchdown and a fumble. Lawrence had two touchdowns in the second half. He beat Jay Jones and overthrew Christian Kirk in the end zone.

Almost all of the 70,000 or so were waiting for Lawrence to do something. Instead, the Jags became the first team since Carolina in 2000 to come from a fourth-quarter comeback without a first down, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Henry added another impressive stiff arm to his loaded highlight reel. He threw Jenkins down the field for a 14-yard gain in the second quarter, sparking a flurry of social media posts about the move.

Starting quarterback Nick Foles laid eggs against the Colts last week, and his box score looked much better than his actual play on the field, but he should bounce back against a tough Titans defense this week. That’s why you paid Foles that money and why you went from rookie Gardner Minshew II to Foles. Foles is supposed to win these kinds of crucial big-moment plays.

This isn’t just an important game for Nick Foles, it’s actually an important game for the Jaguars franchise as a whole. If you blow this game while you’re still in the playoff hunt, for all intents and purposes you’re out.
