What Kenzie machine is this? This is an IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal phone that you can use at home, and I want to tell you that this is what you need.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably heard that I’ve been waxing my legs for a while now. Since high school, I’ve been shining my feet for the past half year, but faithfully. I got a wax membership at my local wax bar and went regularly. Waxing was the best choice for me in this season of life. Then Covid happened and we were locked up, so all the work and progress went into a tailspin.

As I mentioned above, Kenzie is an IPL device for home use. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, which means that the light passes through the device in multiple wavelengths. Laser hair removal uses a more concentrated spectrum of light. The difference between the two is that laser hair removal penetrates deep into the skin, while IPL does not. Therefore, IPL can take several more sessions to remove all the hair, and laser can do it for less. Either way, Ken is a wonderful alternative to hair removal in the comfort of your own home.
When it arrived, I was very impressed with the packaging and the quality of the product. It came in a deluxe box (I don’t have pictures of it since it was processed) and everything looked really nice. The instructions on how to use it are straightforward and there is no room for confusion. I also chose how to send the booklet to you if you don’t want to keep the booklet.

The touch and feel of the device is also very good. It’s comfortable to hold in your hand, and it’s not too heavy or awkward to find a size big enough to hold.
If you are familiar with laser hair removal in general, you know that you cannot reduce the area you want to treat, because wax removes the hair follicle. For the laser or IPL to work, the hair follicle must be in place.
Before the laser is done, it is recommended to treat the areas that you are going to shave. Exfoliating will get rid of dead and dry skin and shave it closer to you. Doing this will help you tame your hair.
For me, I bought a dry brush and I can’t tell you how amazing it is.

Dry clean is much better than irritating exfoliating gloves. I always felt that they irritated my skin and did more harm than good. The benefit of using a dry brush for my feet at night. I’ve always had bad hair on my legs, but since using my dry brush it’s completely gone. Highly recommended! Long story short, exfoliate before using Kennel because yes, it does make a difference.
Once you’re done finding and scratching the spot you want, you’re ready to use! Ken recommends visiting each area 3 times. I space the hits up to 1 inch apart to make sure I don’t miss any areas. The device has a skip option so you don’t have to keep pressing the button for each pulse. This is useful when working on larger areas like your feet.
There are also 5 different settings you can change, 5 being the strongest for faster results. They recommend that you start your first session at level 1 and build from there. I did the first session at level 1, but all subsequent sessions are at level 5. The actual lasering is not very painful, and if possible, I recommend doing it at the maximum setting for faster results. Cleansing the area after laser treatment is also recommended to prevent skin dryness.
I have been using Kenzie for the recommended 12 weeks and I have to say I am very impressed with the results! It is important to tire my feet faithfully for over a year before starting this process. If you are starting from scratch and depending on how much hair you have, it may take a few more sessions. Since using Ken, my ingrown hairs have reduced significantly, and I could probably go a week and a half without shaving my legs. This is a big win for me. I don’t have to do extra sessions on my legs or bottom, which is really exciting for a girl who has limited work with all her body hair.

The first picture is before my fourth session. I forgot to take pictures beforehand, so I only have the first one in four weeks. The middle one is up to my eighth session and the third one is up to my twelfth session. The results are hard to see, but the reduction in growth is significant. I have even less hair on my legs and have completely smooth skin. Short hair is hard to capture on camera. However, if you look closely at the hair in the third picture, it is shorter than the first picture.
I also used Kenneth on my face (upper lip, sides, neck) and the hair stopped growing after 6 weeks! I feel more confident now that I don’t have any hair on my face. I always knew about those little hairs. Ugh.
When I shared on IG last week that I was using Kenzie, I got so many questions about it! I thought I could answer some of the people here. Those were the top 3 questions I was asked!
Short answer: No. There are 5 levels that Ken can use, 5 being the highest level. It is recommended to use it at level 1 on the first test and increase from there. The first time I tried it, every session after that at level 5. The only time it drops to level 3 is when I use it a week before my period. The sensitivity is very normal for me as I was extremely sensitive in all areas until a week ago. Use whatever you’re comfortable with, but I light my level 5 gloves and it’s fine. For my face, a level 5 upper lip felt like a quick “zap” to it, but nothing too painful.

Four months of waxing gives me laser results, much better at home. Also, waiting a week to use Kenzie is much easier than waiting several weeks.
