Keeping a trading journal is one of the most important tasks for serious traders. It helps you track your progress and makes it easier to decide what to do next. However, this task becomes quite time-consuming after a while, especially for high-volume day traders. That’s why we’ve created an easy-to-use, yet powerful trading log table template.

This is where you enter the raw data (which you can export from your broker or agency’s software). We have created two versions for easier data management. (The trading log package contains two versions: one is the default version and the other is the IRESS Viewpoint version).
You just need to enter your information in the white cells. We have posted some fake information, don’t forget to replace it with your own. In the upper part, you can control the amount of the commission and choose the duration of the Agreement. You can use Exit Time or Entry Time.

Also, if you want to define different fees per broker, you can do so in the Settings section of the trade log template. You can also manually write different commissions for each line. (Manual entry takes precedence in calculations)
When you have finished entering your information, press the “Refresh” button to display the changes in the Trade Log section. Some rows may be ignored if data is missing, there is an open position, or the date format is incorrect. So check the data management messages. Finally, the “Reset Table” button will delete all existing data.
This is where the raw data is calculated, filtered and displayed per transaction. Because as mentioned earlier, this section is fed with raw data. So if you need to edit something, please work in the raw data section of the trading log.
If you think your transactions look good and correct based on your data, you can continue to analyze your dashboards to check your progress and trends.

On the right side of this section you can see the metadata selections used for the metadata analysis mentioned below.
Here you can see the weekly/monthly performance of your transactions. You can choose from the above (multiple choices are allowed). New days and filters appear when you add new data to the Raw Data section.
Here is your trading log dashboard where you can see the overall performance of your logs. The cumulative net profit/loss chart gives you a good idea of your decisions in the long run.
This section is taken from the data found on the right side of the Trade Journal. (You can edit this metadata dropdown in Settings.)
Forex Trading Journal
This is an independent section where you can enter some data for your trading log. As with metadata parsing, these dropdowns can be edited in the Settings section.
In this section you can enter your source data for the dropdown lists used in the trading log. This will affect the metadata analysis and broker call tracking section as mentioned above.
Finally, you can also manage the entry time calculation here. Also, you can define intervals for different categories in this trading journal excel template. What you enter is the start time of that category. So, if the Date field in the Raw Data section also contains time data, the tool will automatically calculate and display it in the metadata analysis report.

First, the logic is very simple for a closed trade: the bought and sold amounts must be the same for the ticker.
It is important to note here: the trade contract date is the position opening date. (regardless of when it is closed). In this example, the position is opened on the 30th day. So this is the contract date.
Here we are selling 250 volumes but buying 150. If you leave it this way, the trade log will ignore these transactions due to open positions.

You can still update your dashboards. Just know that this trade will be excluded when calculating profits and other indicators.
Note that you can still buy and sell the same ticker. The position is closed when the balance reaches zero. See the third example below.
In this example, we start with a buy and then change the action twice during the course. It doesn’t matter until the balance reaches zero.
Just choose the appropriate unit for your prices (for example, if the raw data is priced in dollars, choose dollars). It doesn’t actually change any calculation logic, but it saves you multiplying/multiplying your data by 100 every time you import new data.

The trading log needs at least one transaction (2 rows) to update the dashboards, logs and analysis sections. Otherwise, there would be no point in displaying empty reports and graphs, right?
You may have entered false information that is not valid. Therefore, the trade magazine is still unable to update the dashboards.
This Trade Journal template is developed for stock markets. Other markets or financial instruments may have different variables and data types that may not fit into our template structure.
